| One time Fiona hurt her
back right leg. Of course like any parent, I was upset, frantic. I
took her to the vet who's first reaction was surgery! She was having
trouble with her knee, if I didn't have the surgery she could lose
the use of her leg, we can set it up for tomorrow and it's only
$2000. Well I love my little Fiona and if I had had the money I
would have done it, but now I'm glad I didn't as a week
later she was fine! But at first she couldn't jump up on the bed anymore, so I removed the frame so that just the box spring and mattress was on the floor. Still too high, (she's just a little girl), so... DOG STEPS! Now the store bought Dog Steps are $30.00. I can't even image what the profit is on these things. They're just snap together injection mold plastic and a faux sheepskin cover. $30! But she needed them and that was good enough for me. Then, she couldn't figure out how to use them. I would pick her up and walk her up and down them and she just didn't get it. As I said, if about a week she was fine, running and jumping like nothing had happened. But the bed was still too high (so she said). Until one day Toby and I were rough housing on the bed and she wanted to play. She ran around to the end of the bed and up the stairs. Once she was there she just stopped, stunned to see where she was. And she's used them ever since. Looking back on it, I don't mind spending the money as she really needed it. But man.. $30! So I set out to make my own. 1 - Here's the store bought steps with the cover on. 2 - Here it is naked. 3 - The warning, it's fine for Fiona but I had to stop Toby from trying them out. 4 - It's pre-made, snap together injection plastic. 5 - the back has a cross X support bar. 6 - The boxes I found were 12x12x12 so 24" one way and 7 - 20" the other, just the right size. 8 - Here's the pattern. 9 - The steps are cut out. 10 - And I was able to get two steps out of each box. |
