Flytrap

My apartment sets just 20 feet away from the little lake we have. It's great, Toby and I sit out there and watch the water, the wildlife and the gators. There's 3 of them, only about 3-5 feet long. Toby wants to play with them. Toby loves being in the water and I'll let him as long as the gators aren't about. But the bad thing about it is the flies. On nice days I like to leave the windows and door open, with a gate across the door so the dogs can look out.

But this lets the flies in. It's nothing to have a dozen or two in the apartment afterwards. I've tried the paper coils, no good. I used no pest strips which only worked for about a week. Then I came across this website. http://fruitflytraps.com/hometrap.htm and this one http://insected.arizona.edu/flyrear.htm.

I followed the steps. 1 - Got all of my supplies together. Empty 2 liter soda bottle, sugar, tape, a knife and honey. 2- Cut off the top of the bottle about an inch below the curve. 3 - Turned the top over and put it back into the bottom half. 4 - Taped them together. 5 - Boiled water and put in a cup of sugar, stirred until it all dissolved. 6 - Toby poking his head out to see what I was cooking. 7 - Pouring the mix in, then added some honey. 8 - Set it outside and now we'll see what happens.

Update: Well it's not catching too many flys, I think that I have too much water in it, but man is it catching ants!
