Saving money continued. So I wasn't really saving much. My sink is a single sink, so I would fill up a big tub with hot water and put everything in there "to soak". Leaving it until it got cold and had to re-fill it with hot water, then run the water in the sink and down the drain to rinse it, THEN pour the soapy water down the drain. So. Here's what I'm doing different now.

WATER - I was wasting a lot of water. So I've started using gray water, which is water that has been used for something else, i.e., washing dishes, taking a shower, etc. I use two bowls to wash the dishes. One with water I heat up in the microwave as it's cheaper to run than the hot water header, (which I'm not keeping turned on four days in a row. I turn it on for 6-10 hours to heat up then shut it back off again), and a bowl to rinse. After they're done I use that water to either flush the toilet or water the non-veggie plants with.

When I would shower I would turn the water on to "heat up" and then sit there reading. Sometimes for 10 minutes while the water just kept running down the drain. Now I have the nozzle pointing down and get into the back of the shower. Besides this time of year cold and cool showers are what you take. The other thing I did was to replace the big wide open showerhead that was in there with a low flow military type showerhead. A military showerhead has a on/off switch on it. So I wet myself down and shut off the water and soap up. That was the water is just the right temperature and pressure when I turn it back on and the water is not just running down the drain.

I got one of those sets of fuzzy rugs/seat covers for the toilet, so now I step out of the shower, sit down and shave my face while it's still wet, mine while I'm drip/air drying. This was the clean towel stays clean a little longer and I only have to wash them every 5 days. I used to shave my head in the shower with the water running over it, now I just use a bowl of water and use it to flush the toilet.

I've been spending about $20 a month on bottled water. Not much really, but I am looking into some type of filter system. I really don't like the taste of the tap water here, but I'm willing to try.

One thing I'll tell you right off the bat, it was expensive to save money. But all the stuff that I bought, (that I couldn't find on eBay or yard sales will pay for itself. I fully expect to lose power this year for at least a week so this time I'll be ready.
